Edward A. Hubner, PE Awarded Engineer of the Year by the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers

Hubner AwardOn March 31, 2011, Edward A. Hubner, PE was awarded as Engineer of the Year at the Professional Engineers Awards Night hosted by the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers (MDSPE) at the Engineers Club in downtown Baltimore.  At the formal event, the esteemed award was given by MDSPE President Bill Ryan, PE in front of a record-breaking crowd of over 150 in attendance, with the keynote address given by honored guest, Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. 

The Engineer of the Year award is given to the individual who best demonstrates the highest ideals of the engineering profession.  Mr. Hubner relocated to Maryland from his native New Jersey upon graduation from Penn State with a Bachelors of Architectural Engineering with a specialty in Environmental Systems Design, he has been a registered Professional Engineer since 1990 and is currently licensed to practice in Maryland and three other states.  He has worked as a consulting engineer with EBL Engineers since 1987 and is currently Principal-in-Charge of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Engineering as well as the Construction Management Group.  He has extensive experience in the design of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, industrial ventilation, thermal storage, process piping, geothermal, and energy management systems and is highly regarded for forensic engineering in the field of remedial energy analysis where he has helped private, public and governmental clients save millions of dollars in energy costs while reducing greenhouse emissions.

He has represented the best interests of professional engineers on the Maryland Council of Design Professionals for over 10 years, has been an officer of the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers and is currently its president-elect.   In addition, he is active in numerous other Professional Associations including the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the American Consulting Engineers Council (ACEC), and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).  In 2009, responding to a request from the Maryland Military Department to augment its access to professional engineers in times of crisis, he accepted a commission as a Captain in the Engineering Corp of the Maryland Defense Force.  Today he serves as the Commanding Officer, Bravo Company of the 121st Engineer Regiment.  His company, comprised solely of Professional Engineers, not only provides logistic support to both the Maryland National Guard and Emergency Management Agency but also stands trained and ready to respond to natural or manmade disasters.  

Chartered in 1938, the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers in conjunction with the National Society of Professional Engineers promotes professionalism and ethics in engineering. It is active in safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of Maryland citizens.
